Trauma and Beyond

Traumatic experiences are the hardest to overcome. Every incident that took a piece of your innocent soul would turn back to you in a form of a trauma response. There are so many forms of trauma responses.

People with trauma might work excessively, might become so cautious or fearful of new places, people, events or change. A traumatized person might become very emotionally vulnerable or douptful .

I believe the hardest of all types of trauma responses is when the traumatized person turns into a narcissistic person, or an evil person who wanted to see and witness everybody going through the same pain that they’ve been through.

They say, “Hurt people hurt.”And that’s true.🤷🏻‍♀️

I saw someone who lost a friend in a suicide incident years back. After the person was singled out, the person lost the sense of community, then eventually turned envious towards gatherings and wanted everybody to get a taste of their loneliness. So, the person did the best they could to undermine togetherness wherever it was.

It became obvious that that person had issues that needed to be handled by a professional. Which is totally fine. Whether the pain in your body or in your soul, there’s absolutely no problem to seek professional help from those who knew better.

OTOH, whatever evil that person committed to others, I personally find solace in saying that even evil by God’s will is a form of divine powers that will eventually be a divine fate happening to divinely created creatures to execute divinely written plans/will. God’s will is what will be happening. That’s why we call it the divine creed. 🧕

We as true believers are in full submission to the divine will and can attest that divine powers can change any disteny at any time only if He Almighty wills.

Until we get time and proper tools to heal and move on, it takes time. Let’s stay reminded that it hits different for everyone.

How Poet Maya Angelo Healed Beautifully from Her Trauma?

Years back, before getting certified as a mental aid for youth, I was interested in educating myself in mental wellness, self help books, and podcasts that promote wellbeing and good mental hygiene.

One of the most podcasts that made so much difference in my perspective was a podcast by Opera Winfrey. It was called Soul Conversations by Opera.

The amazing anchor had had people from all walks of lives sharing their honest stories and how they overcame severe traumatic events and vicarious traumatic experiences.

It was interesting to know that many of them were artistic people.

Maybe this side note resonated with what I once heard about the hidden link between trauma and developing a sense of art in people with traumatic experiences. I heard that as much as trauma shuts some social emotional human channels, it opens up artistic channels in traumatized people’s brains, hence, people with traumatic experiences tend to be hypervigilant and can notice and respond to events in more effective or expressive way than people with no traumatic experiences. Yes, these are the trauma gifts. 🙂

One of my favorite and popular episodes was by the famous poet Maya Angelo; as she reflected on her experience after being raped. Here, I’m paraphrasing what she said. Maya mentioned that she told on the person who raped her and the next day, they found that person dead.

As a child, it was a mind boggling experience. Maya falsely believed that she was the reason why this person was killed. Maya was delusional to the point that she believed that every time she spoke, there would be a trouble. As a trauma response, she learned silence to cope with her trauma.

Maya stayed silent for five whole years avoiding to speak. While she had a plenty of time on her hands, she busied herself with reading. She consumed all books in the close by library. She read to the fullest. Then, when Maya spoke, it was poetic.

What a lovely and endearing trauma response!

🙂

Some folks are lucky enough to realize that life is better spent with self reconciliation. When in peace.

So, these great folks are inspired to move on while educating others what made them that GREAT!

Inspiration and Taking Action

I was reminded of this story when I heard about some institutional work done by the Department of Correction in California helping incarcerated Muslims to earn points toward less years in prison via learning and education. It’s a %100 trauma healing work!

Imam Ghazali Publishing Institute launched a campaign to bring more Islamic books to incarcerated Muslims. Please consider making Sadaqa to support their efforts.

Peace!

P.s. In blogposts, I’m using my storytelling talents to bring you knowledge I worked hard for. Some of my stories are adjusted for the purpose of informing without violating people’s privacy or disrespecting human pain.

As a caring purposeful storyteller, I care about retelling stories without retraumatizing the actual storyteller. People’s dignity is priceless.

Stay loved and beautiful!
